Dufnering goes viral after Jason Dufner wins PGA

Jason Dufner celebrates on the 18th green after

(Credit: Getty)

First, there was Tebowing. Then Kaepernicking. Now, we can add Dufnering, the art of taking a seated, completely lifeless photo of yourself, a la 2013 PGA Champion Jason Dufner, to the list. Dufner won his first major title on Sunday, capturing the PGA Championship with a 10-under par performance at the the Oak Hill Country Club, but it didn't seem to faze him. On the most important 18th green of...

In case there were any doubts, His Airness can still throw it down.

Now 50 years old, Michael Jordan, the six-time NBA champion and Charlotte Bobcats owner, dunked at his annual "Flight School" basketball camp at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Lest we forget how Jordan ended his 2009 Hall of Fame induction speech, "One day you might look up and see me playing...

HBO to premiere 'Glickman'

I will be taking the rest of August off to prepare for my fantasy football draft, so forgive this being a tad early side, but it’s important:

On Aug. 26 HBO will premiere a documentary about iconic announcer Marty Glickman called “Glickman,” simple and to the point, just as Marty would have liked it, and just as he taught sportscasting to generations of disciples from Marv Albert to Bob Costas...

For most non-golfers the sound of a player whining about the game’s frustrations sounds like “yada, yada, yada.’’

But when Larry David does it, well, check out the season finale of David Feherty’s eponymous Golf Channel show at 9 p.m. Monday.

Some highlights: “You do not have the level of humiliation in any other game that you get in golf. You top a ball, it goes 14 feet, there is no...

Fox insists it does not have an NFL depth chart behind Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, but it was difficult not to notice when Kevin Burkhardt appeared fourth among play-by-play men on its list ofF 2013 announcing teams following Buck, Kenny Albert and Thom Brennaman – and ahead of veteran Dick Stockton.

Pretty good for a rookie well known around here as SNY’s Mets reporter but not well established...

Fox ups ante in battle with ESPN, NBC

Fox unleashed a surprising salvo Wednesday in the ongoing cable sports wars when it wrested the men’s, women’s and senior U.S. Open golf tournaments from NBC and ESPN – effective in 2015.

The USGA announcement prompted a predictably colorful response from NBC’s Johnny Miller, who told The AP, “I don’t know what they’re going to do. You can’t just fall out of a tree and do the U.S. Open. I...

Former NYC track star Shola Lynch profiles Mary Decker

Four years later, the USSR returned the favor

(Credit: AP)

It’s not every day I get to write about a film directed by an athlete I covered when she was in high school, but today is one of those days, thanks to “Runner,’’ Tuesday’s entry in ESPN’s “Nine for IX’’ documentary series.

Shola Lynch, a star runner at Hunter College High School in Manhattan in the mid-1980s, recalls Decker’s days as one of America’s biggest sports stars – she was SI’s 1983...

'The Immortal' Chris Majkowski hits a milestone

Chris Majkowski figured Gary Cohen on SNY and Howie Rose on WFAN might refer Wednesday night to the 20th anniversary of the last Mets game he missed as a radio producer/engineer.

What he did not expect was to see his milestone noted on the Citi Field scoreboard, and with a cake in the booth.

“I didn’t see it coming at all,’’ he said Thursday. “I was just hoping if Gary...

Alex Rodriguez delivers ratings for YES

Everyone knows the Yankees had, um, mixed emotions about Alex Rodriguez returning to the fold rather than, say, folding his tent and going away for good.

But there is no downside to A-Rod when it comes to YES Network ratings.

That was proven Monday night when his not-so-triumphant return to the big leagues helped YES average 4.34 percent of homes in the New York market for the Yankees-White...
