ESPN overdoses on LLWS

2. "Bad News Bears" (1976)

It’s that time of year again, when ESPN ponders the gaping hole in its late August programming and fills it with a shocking number of baseball games featuring 11- and 12-year-olds.

As dog days promotions involving sub-.500 baseball teams go, this one is creative enough to warrant a mention here.

Starting next week, SNY will give away a signed Keith Hernandez scorecard for each game the analyst works.

SNY will pose a trivia question related to Hernandez during Mets games, and the 17th fan correctly to answer it on Twitter will get one of his famously intricate scorecards....

Rarely do I write about museum exhibits in Kentucky, but a helpful p.r. person was savvy enough to use two magic words – “Derek’’ and “Jeter’’ – so, here goes:

The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory features an exhibit through Labor Day in which 222,180 LEGO pieces have been turned into stadium replicas – 57,960 of them for Wrigley Field – and player portraits.

I spoke to Shep Messing Thursday about the Red Bulls and about his plans to attend the Cosmos' opener Saturday.

That is important, but this is more so: Mr. Messing will take part in MSG's fifth annual Garden of Dreams "Dream week," Aug. 12-16, in which the Garden hosts a group of 40 disadvantaged children, giving them a series of memorable experiences.

Aug. 12 is the Red Bulls'...

It's not over until it's over, even after one of your most famous TV characters has been dismembered and buried.

Thus will the actor Joe Pantoliano - who as Ralph Cifaretto on "The Sopranos'' found himself going all to pieces - be intact and on stage this autumn playing former Yankees great Yogi Berra in the new play, "Bronx Bombers."

The show, set to premiere Sept. 17...

(Credit: Craig Ruttle)

No one expects the Cosmos to take the New York sports world by storm when they return to NASL action after a 29-year break.

But the team’s visibility got a boost this week with the news SNY would carry all seven home games – three live, four on next-day or same-day delay – beginning with live coverage of Saturday’s opener at Hofstra.

JP Dellacamera and Janusz Michallik will be the announcers.
