“NHL Revealed: A Season Like No Other,” the NBCSN show that has followed NHLers behind the scenes through this winter of outdoor games and Olympic Games, will unveil perhaps its most important episode Thursday: a two-parter focused on the fortnight in Sochi.

Unfortunately for Islanders fans, one key subject of the show will be the season-ending injury to a certain star player with the initials...

Long Beach High's own Larry Brown, now 73 and working his familiar turnaround magic at SMU, will be profiled Tuesday night on HBO's latest "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel."

Gumbel himself, who has known Brown for 35 years, will do the interviewing honors.

"Larry has been psychoanalyzed in print more than any coach in any sport that I can recall, yet he remains open and honest about who...

WLIR (107.1 FM), the Hampton Bays-based station that had been simulcasting ESPN New York Radio, reverted Monday to the All-Christian programming format it had offered until last summer.

The move follows an earlier one last month in which the station dropped all of its local shows, branded as part of its Champions Radio format, and went exclusively with ESPN’s New York-based programs.

The YES Network saw a boost in its average Nets rating Sunday night for the debut of Jason Collins, averaging 1.3 percent of homes in the New York area and peaking at 1.8 percent late in the victory over the Lakers.

YES has been averaging around 0.8 ratings for the Nets. Sunday's game was the network's seventh-highest-rated this season to date.

The big media loser in the historic evening...

Erin Andrews will join ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" as a co-host, the show announced Monday.

I will leave the basics of this matter to our non-sports media/entertainment crew, but for the purposes of our little corner of the world the important thing is that Ms. Andrews will continue in her multi-faceted role with Fox Sports.

Andrews - a former contestant on DWTS - is following the...

CBS announced Monday that former Jets linebacker Bart Scott will join the revamped panel of analysts for its "The NFL Today" pregame show for the 2014 season.

Previously the network said Tony Gonzalez would join the show, while Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe left.

Scott, who last played in 2012, drew...

NBC looks back at Locomotiv disaster

Sources tell me the Olympics will go on even after both American hockey teams were eliminated from gold medal contention, and with that in mind I recommend a feature that NBC plans for its afternoon show Saturday.

It is not tied directly to the Olympics but it is tied to hockey and Russia. The documentary, "Lokomotiv," looks back at the Sept. 7, 2011, plane crash that wiped out the Yaroslavl-based...

NBC wants NHL back in '18

(Credit: AP)

NBC conducted a media call Thursday to promote the United States-Canada men’s hockey semifinal and ended up fielding as many questions about the Pyeongchang Games of 2018 as about Sochi in 2014.

Such is the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the NHL’s interest in putting its season on hold to send its stars hither and yon in search of medals and at risk of injury. (Sorry to bring that up, Islanders...

'Nancy & Tonya,' revisited

(Credit: AP)

“The Price of Gold,” last month’s ESPN look back at the Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan saga of 1994, was good at what it did, but it lacked one crucial element: Nancy Kerrigan.

Kerrigan opted out after agreeing to sit down exclusively with NBC – which also hired her to provide commentary on the figure skating in Sochi.

Sunday night at 7 the payoff for viewers arrives in the form of “Nancy...

Kate Upton three-peats (sort of)

Kate Upton and I go way back, to the spring of 2011, when we rapped about her being a fan of the Yankees, Knicks and especially Jets, thanks to her sister working in client relations for the team.

But we both were younger and more innocent then. In the ensuing years she has become an international star, with three consecutive Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covers, joining Christie Brinkley...
