Rain may prevent some outdoor Memorial Day plans.

The heavy rain from early Monday is not expected to continue, Jay Engle of the National Weather Service said, but skies won’t clear completely.

“There won’t be consistent rain, but there will be some scattered showers and thunderstorms,” Engle said.

The scattered storms are expected to continue into the evening. There may be some breaks where the sun comes out in the afternoon, Engle said, but it’s safe to say it’s not a beach day.

Engle said the rain should end after midnight.

The weather may also prevent New Yorkers from seeing the Manhattanhenge sunset, which is expected to occur Monday around 8:15 p.m.
