Bronx fire victims: See photos

A fire inside a Belmont apartment building on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, killed 12 people, officials said.

The blaze was started by a 3-year-old boy playing with the burners on a stove, FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.

Karen Francis, 37, her daughters Kylie and Kelly Francis, and her 19-year-old niece, Shawntay Young, died after the Belmont apartment fire on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, relatives said.

Maria Batiz, 58, and her infant granddaughter, Amora, were killed in the Belmont fire Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, a family member said.

Emmanuel Mensah, 28, an Army soldier who was visiting New York City for the holidays, was among the 12 victims of the Bronx fire. He died trying to rescue other people in the building, his sister Vanessa Mensah, 20, said Saturday.
