Eat and Drink Guy Fieri's Times Square restaurant to close on Dec. 31 Updated January 2, 2018 1:58 PM Print Share fbShare Tweet Email Cancel your trip to Flavortown. Guy Fieri’s much-lampooned Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar served its last plate of “awesome” pretzel chicken tenders in Times Square at the year’s end.. The comfort food restaurant infamously skewered by the New York Times’ Pete Wells in a 2012 review composed entirely in rhetorical questions (“When you hung that sign by the entrance that says, WELCOME TO FLAVOR TOWN!, were you just messing with our heads?”) permanently shut its doors on Dec. 31 after a scheduled New Year's Eve celebration. “I’m proud that for over five and a half years, Guy’s American in New York City served millions of happy guests from all over the world,” the “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” host said in a statement also thanking the eatery’s staff and guests. A spokesman declined to comment on the reason behind the closure. For all the ridicule items on the menu like "Donkey Sauce" and Lady Liberty's Cosmo endured, the kitchen and bar obviously had its fans, including model Chrissy Teigen. News of its closure prompted an outpouring of tweets, from the bashfully sincere to the hilariously sarcastic: I’ll swear on anything that I really liked this restaurant. Went as a joke, came out covered in ribs and nacho hybrids https://t.co/7j1nKdc3Rq— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) December 28, 2017 I'm wearing all black and frosting my tips as we speak.
