From cheese to croissants, it will be hard to skip any of these special days. January 1: National Bloody Mary Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/31418704@N02 Informally known as National Hangover Day, ease your NYE partying symptoms with a bloody mary (or seven). Celebrate at Jacob's Pickles, where the bloody is laced with bacon, Maison Premiere for a side of shrimp and an oyster, Lobster Joint for a lobster claw garnish, Bar Sardine for a green bloody or Bacchanal for a spicy bloody Maria made with tequila. Cheers! January 2: National Buffet Day AND National Cream Puff Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/8467120@N08 The second day of the year brings a double header to stuff your face. For National Buffet Day (NBD), head to midtown for the infamous slew of steamer trays full of New York-style Chinese chicken, pasta salads and whatever leftovers have been mixed together to create a new casserole. Celebrate with plenty of cheap food. If NBD isn't your style, head to Williamsburg's Caprices by Sophie to celebrate Cream Puff Day with a light, creamy Magic Choux or stop into Beard Papa's for a store full of cream puff varieties. January 4: National Spaghetti Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/meimanrensheng Get your forks twirling-- it's spaghetti's day to shine! Start your morning with breakfast spaghetti from The Bedford, topped with an egg and crispy bacon. For something special later on, consider the duck egg spaghetti topped with uni at Charlie Bird, Marea's crab spaghetti, Perbacco's spaghetti carbonara or Scarpetta's coveted homemade spaghetti with tomato and basil. January 7: National Tempura Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/garrettziegler A day dedicated to crispy fried food! YES. Enjoy the Japanese delicacy at Samurai Mama, which makes a daily special tempura like maitake mushroom and pumpkin. Samarai Mama will also top its famous udon with tempura shrimp or sweet potato. The tempura at Soba-ya and Sobakoh is also delicious, perfectly crisp and ready to dip in sauce. For a spicy twist, order the rock shrimp tempura appetizer at Haru, which comes in spicy mayo sauce. January 12: National Curried Chicken Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/garrettziegler Get ready for spice! Grab some curried chicken in Curry Hill at hotspots like Curry in a Hurry or Baluchi's. Head uptown to Drunken Munkey for some British-inspired curries, visit Savoury for excellent wine pairings or head to Brooklyn for Dosa Royale's Southern Indian cuisine. For a totally different type of curry, visit Go Go Curry around the city for Japanese curry and fried chicken cutlets. January 14: National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day Photo Credit: FACEBOOK/KatzsDeli You'll have what she's having, because what she's having is totally delicious. Or try an extra hot dish of noodles at Xi'an Famous Foods. January 18: National Peking Duck Day Photo Credit: FACEBOOK/rfdecoy Celebrate peking duck in all its greasy, crackling glory at Chinatown's Peking Duck House or try a more contemporary, trendy version at Decoy. January 24: National Lobster Thermidor Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/panpansang What is this day all about? If you lived in a seaside town in France circa the late 19th Century, you'd know. This creamy seafood dish made with lobster, egg yolks and brandy is available at a handful of upscale New York restaurants. Indulge on this special day at 21 Club, The Water Clubs, Le Philosophe or The Carlyle. January 27: National Chocolate Cake Day Photo Credit: Magnolia Bakery It's like your birthday! Celebrate this day with a slice or even a whole chocolate cake. Pick up chocolate on chocolate from Magnolia Bakery or go to Billy's Bakery for some classic American birthday-style layer cake. January 30: National Croissant Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/roboppy Forget the croissant-doughnut hybrids, today is all about the original French pastry! Pick up a flaky, buttery croissant at Balthazar, Ovenly, Dominique Ansel or Francois Payard. January 31: National Hot Chocolate Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/roboppy As if you needed a specific New York winter day to tell you to drink hot chocolate, celebrate today with some of our favorites. And of course, use this last day of the month to prepare yourself for February at The City Bakery, their annual hot chocolate month!
