Eat and Drink Celebrate March food holidays in NYC By MELISSA KRAVITZ firstname.lastname@example.org Updated March 2, 2016 12:21 PM Print Share fbShare Tweet Email It's time to celebrate March food holidays! In like a lion, eat all the lamb... Or something like that. Potato chips, ravioli and paella all have their own days this month -- get ready to celebrate! March 1: National Peanut Butter Lover's Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/clada74 Celebrate your love of peanut butter today! Enjoy one of Doughnut Plant's famed peanut butter and banana doughnuts or the decadent Peanut Butter Candy Bar with dark chocolate espelette marshmallow and candied peanuts at The Wayfarer. March 3: National Cold Cuts Day Photo Credit: Yana Paskova Celebrate a day of cured and sliced meats at a classic NYC deli! Stop into Katz's, Carnegie, Pastrami Queen or Mile End for your fill of pastrami, turkey, salami and more. March 5: National Absinthe Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/emmettanderson Get down with the green lady at Maison Premiere, where drinks made with a traditional absinthe drip pair surprisingly well with freshly shucked oysters. Death & Co, Apotheke and William Barnacle Tavern also serve some pretty strong absinthe cocktails. March 9: National Meatball Day Photo Credit: FACEBOOK/TheMeatballShop This Monday is Meatball Day! Head to The Meatball Shop for their traditional balls or something more exotic like spicy pork or even vegetarian balls, on top of salad, pasta or on a hero. If you'd rather celebrate at home, try making The Meatball Shop's Classic Meatball recipe! March 10: National Pack Your Lunch Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/nationalmuseumofamericanhistory Celebrate today by brown bagging it! Or, if that's just not going to work for you, check out our lunch guides to pick up the best midday meal in your hood. Or, consider getting your lunch delivered from a swanky service. March 11: National Eat Your Noodles Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/roboppy Eat noodles all day today! You can start with some pasta for breakfast and then continue the day with a plethora of New York noodles. Stop into Tasty Hand Pulled Noodles, Xi'an Famous Foods or Harlem's brand new The Hand Pulled Noodle to continue the celebrations. March 16: National Artichoke Hearts Day Photo Credit: FACEBOOK/Artichoke-Basilles-Pizza You're celebrating this day at Artichoke Basille's Pizza! Enjoy a slice of their signature creamy spinach and artichoke pizza. If you prefer to drink your veggies (yes, with alcohol), opt for the Artichoke Sour at Tribeca's American Cut. March 19: National Poultry Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/bionicgrrl Celebrate today with some great chicken! Stop into Rotisserie Georgette for their excellent rotisserie meats or pick up a whole chicken and a variety of wings at Hell's Kitchen's Poulette. You could also go the slightly less healthy route with fried chicken from Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken or BonChon Chicken. March 20: National Ravioli Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/sifalcia Celebrate stuffed pasta on March 20 and year-round with freshly made ravioli from Borgatti's Ravioli and Egg Noodle in the Bronx, Giovanni Rana in Chelsea Market or Cassinelli Food in Astoria. March 22: National We Love Broccoli Day Photo Credit: FACEBOOK/No-7-Sub Love broccoli? At least fake it for today. Celebrate with Dirt Candy's vegetarian broccoli dogs or go for the Broccoli Classic sandwich made with lychee muchim, ricotta salata and fried shallots at No. 7 Sub. March 25: International Waffles Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/cherrylet Celebrate the waffle all day! Enjoy chicken and waffles at Sweet Chick or Pies 'N Thighs or stop by some of the waffle spots we recommend for Leslie Knope. You can also get your celebratory egg waffle rolled with ice cream at Eggloo. March 27: National Spanish Paella Day Photo Credit: INSTAGRAM/ElBornNYC Stop into Greenpoint's El Born for a hot skillet of crispy paella just like you're in Spain! Bobby Flay's Southwestern restaurant Gato was popularized in 2014 for its kale and mushroom paella, not exactly Spanish, but delicious. March 28: National Something on a Stick Day Photo Credit: FLICKR/traveloriented There are so many ways to celebrate today! Grab some elote (Latin American corn with cheese) on a stick at spots like La Flor de Guererro Deli & Grocery in Elmhurst or at Cafe Habana. You could also chow down on a corn dog on a stick from Crif Dogs or just grab one from a stand at Coney Island. For an Asian twist, consider grabbing some yakitori skewers at Zuma or Ootoya.
