El Cortez is the newest restaurant from Stephen Tanner (of Commodore fame, see below). So OF COURSE the nachos at his tiki-drink themed spot in Bushwick would be be amazing. They're vegetarian (score!) and topped with pinto beans, cilantro, queso, crema and three different salsas. The chips are super chippy, and by that we mean firm and crispy. Nachos are available as an appetizer and an entree on the dinner menu at this new Greenpoint spot, which says a lot about how delicious and satisfying the dish is. The cheese sauce is made with heavy cream and American cheese making for a rich and delicious base for the toppings. Calexico is the best of the best when it comes to pretty much all their dishes, and that includes the nachos. They come topped with the works: guacamole, roasted corn, black beans, cheese sauce, pico de gallo, pickled jalapenos and sour cream. You could probably get crack sauce on the side and douse the nachos in even more flavor, if that's your thing. (And it should be). $12, $16 with chicken, steak, pork or ground beef. They are really, really good.
