Taco seasoning. Seriously. ipiit, an app which analyzes food products for their allergens, has run the numbers, and taco seasoning was one of the most-scanned items in America and New York City this year. With three different brands in the top 10 lists, it makes us wonder what is really in taco seasoning? According to the data, New Yorkers worried about allergens are most prone to gluten-free or wheat-free diets, followed by a preference for artificial sweetener-free, aspartame-free and MSG-free foods. Here are the top 10 foods New Yorkers checked for allergens this year. 1. Nutella-Ferrero Hazelnut Spread Photo Credit: Nutella It's so good, but what's really in it? Sugar, palm oil, hazelnuts and cocoa are the key ingredients in Nutella. 2. Old El Paso Taco Seasoning Mix Original Photo Credit: Old El Paso What's even in this? Chili pepper, salt, maltodextrin, spice, onion powder, corn starch and yellow corn flour are the top ingredients. 3. Kellogg's Cereal Rice Krispies Photo Credit: Kellogg's Snapping, crackling and popping into New Yorker's scary foods list. 4. Nature Valley Granola Bars, Crunchy, Oats 'N Honey Photo Credit: General Mills Passed out at every race, after school activity and who knows where else, no wonder people are curious about what's in these sweet and crunchy snacks. 5. McCormick Taco Original Seasoning Mix Photo Credit: McCormick MSG-free and reportedly made with natural spices, ingredients in this include chili pepper, cumin, paprika, oregano, onion, whey, salt, garlic, sugar, potato starch and "natural flavor," whatever that is. 6. Tostitos Tortilla Chips Photo Credit: Frito Lay With all that taco seasoning, it looks like New Yorkers are equally paranoid about tortilla chips at their fiestas. 7. Ortega Taco Seasoning Mix Photo Credit: Ortega More taco seasoning! This one is made from yellow corn flour, salt, maltodextrin, paprika, spices (?!), modified corn starch, sugar, garlic powder, citric acid, autolyzed yeast extract and caramel color containing sulfites. 8. Ingredients include tomato puree, high fructose corn syrup, distilled vinegar, corn syrup and plenty more sugar, seasonings and xanthan gum. Yum. 9.
