TurnStyle Columbus Circle: Food hall and retail shops open in subway station

Subway stations aren’t usually associated with high-end coffee, artisan pizza or vegan food, but with the opening of TurnStyle at Columbus Circle, that’s changing.

The first of its kind and four years in the making, TurnStyle is a privately financed retail and food development. Susan Fine, the developer of TurnStyle, said the 30,000-square-foot project is a “prototype” that may influence future subway station developments in NYC. TurnStyle has a 30-year lease with the MTA, which owns the property. Fine isn’t new to transforming transit hubs; in the 1990s she worked on turning Grand Central Terminal into the retail destination it is today.

There are 20 eateries and 17 retail shops. Some are permanent and others are pop-ups.

TurnStyle opens at 5 p.m. on April 19 and will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Entrances are located on Eighth Avenue between 57th and 59th streets.

Take a look around.
