People magazine says it has confirmed that former Olympic champion Bruce Jenner is transitioning into a woman.
The magazine, citing an anonymous "source close to the family," says Jenner, 65, will soon be living life as a female, though the magazine did not specify where along the transgender spectrum -- from transvestism to surgical sex-reassignment -- he will fall.
The source told the magazine Jenner was being respectful toward his family, making changes subtly and gradually so as not to shock them. The family is giving him space and being patient, allowing him to make his public transition at his own pace, People said. This includes what the TV trade press, including Variety, has said is an E! reality show chronicling what stepdaughter Kim Kardashian calls his "journey." E! has declined to comment on the reported series.
In addition to Kim, two other stepdaughters, fellow reality-TV stars Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian, and stepson Rob Kardashian, Jenner's family includes son Burt, 36, and daughter Cassandra, 34, with first wife Chrystie Crownover; sons Brandon, 33, and Sam Brody, known as Brody, 31, with second wife Linda Thompson; and daughters Kendall, 19, and Kylie, 17, with "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" matriarch Kris Jenner, who filed for divorce in September following 23 years of marriage, including a long and amicable separation.
People noted that, "Numerous requests for comment from Jenner and his representatives were met with no reply."
Kim Kardasian told "Entertainment Tonight" last week, "I think everyone goes through things in life, and I think that story and what Bruce is going through, I think he'll share whenever the time is right," adding, "I feel like that's his journey to talk about."
