Derek Jeter marries Hannah Davis

Retired New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter, who also retired from his playboy ways upon his engagement last year to Hannah Davis, married the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover girl Saturday in California’s Napa Valley.

A representative for the fashion label Vera Wang confirmed the date and locale and said Davis wore a custom Vera Wang Bride mermaid gown with a sweetheart neckline, a tulle halter high neck and a plunging back. The gown was covered in layers of tulle and hand-appliqued Chantilly lace. For the reception, the representative said, Davis wore a custom V-neck charmeuse halter gown with white illusion tulle detail at waist and double silk georgette A-line skirt accentuated by side godets.

People magazine, which first reported the news, specified that Jeter, 42, and Davis, the star of DirecTV’s commercials featuring herself and a talking horse, wed at the Meadowood Napa Valley Resort in the city of St. Helena. WCBS-AM/880’s Kelly Waldron said that Jeter’s former teammates Jorge Posada, Andruw Jones and Tino Martinez were among the fewer than 100 guests.

In November, the celebrated shortstop casually revealed that he and Davis had become engaged, writing on his website, The Players’ Tribune, that his new pet mastiff “was a Christmas gift last year from my fiancée. . . . ” Us Weekly said at the time that Jeter proposed in late October. The couple, who have been linked romantically since 2012, did not make their red-carpet debut until the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in May 2015.

Rumors had abounded in late 2010 that Jeter was engaged to actress Minka Kelly, whom he had dated since 2008, but nothing came of that speculation. He had previously had serious relationships of varying lengths with singer Mariah Carey, Miss Universe 2000 Lara Dutta, actress Jordana Brewster and TV personality Vanessa Minnillo.
