Elizabeth Gilbert, author of the bestselling 2006 memoir “Eat Pray Love,” is separating from Jose Nunes, her husband of 12 years. “I am separating from the man whom many of you know as ‘Felipe’ — the man whom I fell in love with at the end of the EAT PRAY LOVE journey,” the 46-year-old writer posted on her Facebook page Friday.
“Eat Pray Love” was made into a 2010 movie starring Julia Roberts as Gilbert and Javier Bardem as Nunes, a Brazilian businessman whom she meets and falls in love with in Bali during a round-the-world trip of self-discovery.
“Because I have shared details of my private life with you all so intimately over the years, I feel the need to share with you this recent change in my personal life,” Gilbert explained in the Facebook post.
Though she did not give a reason for the split, she said that it was “amicable” and asked fans to respect her privacy. By midafternoon Friday the post had been viewed 26,000 times and generated 6,400 replies with the new Facebook “sad” emoji.
