Kim Kardashian, Kanye West to try for baby No. 3 despite troubled pregnancies

Despite a history of fertility issues and troubled pregnancies, reality-TV star Kim Kardashian nonetheless says she wants to have a third child with her husband, rapper Kanye West.

“I’m going to try to have one more baby” in addition to daughter North, 3, and son Saint, 1, Kardashian tells sisters Kourtney and Khloé and their mother, Kris Jenner, in a promotional clip for this Sunday’s episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” Kardashian, 36, then says to the camera in an insert, “I want my kids to have siblings, but the doctors don’t feel like it’s safe for me.”

Jenner in the clip cautions her daughter, “I don’t want you to do something that would put you in danger.”

In 2013, Kardashian revealed on her website that during her first pregnancy she had had pre-eclampsia, a complication characterized by high blood pressure and excessive urinary protein, and which can lead to an inadequate amount of amniotic fluid and placental abruption, the separation of the placenta from the uterine wall before delivery.

“I had early-onset pre-eclampsia and I had to deliver at 34 weeks, almost six weeks early,” she wrote. “We induced my labor and I had North soon after.” But came a further complication. “Right after delivery, the placenta usually then comes out. Mine did not. My placenta stayed attached inside my uterus, which is a condition called placenta accreta. This is a high-risk condition that happens when the placenta grows too deeply into the uterine wall.” While her doctor removed most of it, Kardashian needed further surgery, and then another to remove scar tissue.

During her second pregnancy, Kardashian blogged that at 36 weeks her son was still facing upward in a breech position, which occurs in roughly four percent of births and often requires a Caesarean section. To prevent this, she later wrote, “I checked into the hospital and underwent a procedure called an external cephalic version (ECV), which is done to manually turn the baby from a breech position to a head-down position.”

Before North’s birth, Kardashian said on NBC’s “Today” that while her younger sister Khloé “has been very open about her fertility issues . . . I was always really kind of quiet about mine, and I have similar issues, and so it was a pleasant surprise when so many doctors were telling me [I could not become pregnant] and then the opposite happens.”
