Kim Kardashian West’s assailants still at large after Paris robbery

Paris police on Tuesday continued their manhunt for the unknown robbers who stole an estimated $10 million in jewelry from reality-TV star Kim Kardashian a day earlier.

Hampering the investigation, TMZ.com said Tuesday, is a lack of surveillance video from within or outside the Hôtel de Pourtalès, a highly private, unmarked abode in Paris’ tony Madeleine district, where Kardashian, 35, was staying while attending Paris Fashion Week. The website added that police had no luck turning up video from nearby businesses they canvassed.

The five assailants, who posed as police officers, absconded on bicycles, TMZ said.

In the wake of the robbery, Kardashian’s husband, 39-year-old rapper Kanye West, cut short a performance in Queens in order to be with his wife, who had quickly left Paris to fly back to the United States. He has since postponed two shows on his current “Saint Pablo Tour,” rescheduling Tuesday’s concert at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center to Dec. 16, and Thursday’s show at the Palace at Auburn Hills in Detroit to Dec. 22. Subsequent shows, beginning with Friday’s concert at the United Center in Chicago, are set to go on as planned. The tour, which included two days at Madison Square Garden last month, concludes Nov. 1 in Los Angeles.

While much social media speculation has centered on whether the robbery was an inside job or even a publicity stunt, legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld suggested Kardashian herself was partly to blame. She is “too public, too public,” Lagerfeld, 83, told The Associated Press at the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week. “We have to see in what time we live. You cannot display your wealth then be surprised that some people want to share it.” He added, “I don’t understand why [Kardashian] was in a hotel with no security and things like this. If you are that famous and you put all your jewelry on the net you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room.”

Kardashian may take such advice to heart, anonymous sources told People magazine, which suggested that the reality star may be planning to scale back her public appearances for a time, at least, and add more security.
