Madame Tussauds separates Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt wax figures

Reacting to Tuesday’s surprise announcement that Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie is divorcing her film-star husband, Brad Pitt, Madame Tussauds has separated its wax figures of the couple.

The London-based chain of wax museums tweeted Wednesday that, “Following the news that has shocked celebrity watchers worldwide, we can confirm we have separated Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s figures.”

“We reacted quickly to yesterday’s news of the separation of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and their plans to divorce by mirroring the separation in the attraction,” Madame Tussauds said in a statement. “The couple’s wax figures, which were launched in 2013, have been split up and are now featured at a respectful distance from each other. Angelina is keeping Nicole Kidman company and Brad Pitt is with his several time co-star Morgan Freeman.”

A Madame Tussauds representative told The Associated Press that Jolie and Pitt figures are on display at 15 of its 20 locations, though not in the Times Square attraction.

Meanwhile, singer Adele dedicated Tuesday’s Madison Square Garden concert to the couple.

More jocularly, several celebrities tweeted responses to news of the couple’s breakup. “Before we get too cavalier about it, let’s remember that #brangelina was possibly the only thing still holding the USA together,” wrote “Frozen” and “The Book of Mormon” star Josh Gad. “Brad and Angelina. How am I supposed to go to work today?” quipped model and TV host Chrissy Teigen. “I feel bad for kids that aren’t gonna get adopted by #brangelina now,” tweeted reality TV star Spencer Pratt, in reference to Jolie’s adoption of three of her and Pitt’s six children.

Filmmaker Tate Taylor told AP at the London premiere of his thriller “The Girl on the Train,” “Frankly, with all that’s going on in the world, I just think it’s a shame that’s even talked about. They’re just two people breaking up. There’s bigger fish to fry right now.”
