Emmys 2016 red carpet: Claire Danes, Sarah Paulson, Emilia Clarke among best-dressed

Mother of dragons, Emilia Clark, wore a nude, beyond body con Versace sequined gown to the 68th annual Prime-time Emmy Awards. Sarah Hyland’s ensemble, a stiff, floral, long-winged bodice over pants by Monique Lhuillier conjured a (very pretty) dragonfly.

There were true individualists on the red carpet, a rarity of late, among them Sarah Paulson, in a plunging, emerald green Prada that boasted every embellishment in the book: sequins, ribbons, paillettes — she looked great. Claire Danes, in golden, strappy Schiaparelli, admitted “we kind of went for it.” And though Kristen Bell had to literally carry her big flowered Zuhair Murad confection up the stairs, it was lovely. Jane Krakowski’s purple-and-pearl beauty was plucked right off Bibhu Mohapatra’s New York Fashion Week runway. But sometimes doing your own thing doesn’t go well, as in the case of Anna Chlumsky’s very weird bubble mini dress meets train . . . yikes.

Sunny yellow was a bright spot on the red carpet with Taraji P. Henson glowing in custom Vera Wang, Angela Bassett in Christian Siriano, Ellie Kemper, sparkly in Jennie Packham. And red has become a red carpet staple — Tatiana Maslany in saucy, cutout Alexander Wang, Priyanka Chopra in flowy, custom Jason Wu and Regina King, a satin strapless Elizabeth Kennedy gown.

There were metallics galore: Laverne Cox, all showgirl in Naeem Khan, and Ariel Winter in an Art Deco-inspired silver-nude illusion job by Yousef Al-Jasmi (Kylie Jenner wore a shorter version earlier in the week). Heidi Klum wore an icy sequined Michael Kors and confessed to a fit problem. It showed.

For fun: Kerry Washington’s custom black Brandon Maxwell had swooping cutouts that punctuated her baby bump and Tracee Ellis Ross went goddess in her white Ralph Lauren creamy one-shoulder job with a cutout at the waist.

Finally navy was big: Emily Ratajkowski in a shapely Zac Posen (the designer, in a matching tux, accompanied her), America Ferrera in Jenny Packham sparkles, Maura Tierney in inky blue Christian Siriano with 3-D cloth flower embellishment and Amy Schumer, in an off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood, who shocked poor Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet by mentioning that she was also wearing a feminine hygiene product. Ew.
