HBO’s ‘Vinyl,’ filmed in New York, hired more than 3.4K local workers, MPAA says

HBO’s “Vinyl,” a short series about 1970s New York, brought thousands of jobs to New York, the Motion Picture Association of America announced Wednesday.

The production of the show’s 10 episode first season, which premiered on Feb. 14, hired more than 3,445 workers in New York and provided business for 800 in-state vendors, a press release said.

The series was filmed in New York City, mid-Hudson and on Long Island.

“The tremendous economic contributions from HBO’s ‘Vinyl’ exemplify the film and television industry’s strong record of creating job opportunities and driving investment in New York,” MPAA chairman and CEO Chris Dodd said in the press release.

The Empire State Development President and CEO Howard Zemsky said the production of the show boosted business across New York.

“From state-of-the-art production facilities to one-of-a-kind filming locations, New York State has ample resources to support major film and television productions like ‘Vinyl,’ which generated revenue for local economies and hired thousands of workers, becoming the latest production to make a significant contribution to New York’s flourishing film industry,” Zemsky in the release.
