Photo Credit: NBC / Matthew Doyle By Frank Lovece Special to Newsday June 22, 2016 7:50 AM Print Share fbShare Tweet gShare Email Tony and Emmy Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth has joined the cast of NBC’s live television production of the Broadway musical “Hairspray.” The network announced Tuesday that Chenoweth, 47, most recently Tony-nominated for last year’s “On the Twentieth Century,” will play Velma Von Tussle, the self-promoting and manipulative producer of “The Corny Collins Show,” who strives to make her daughter the star Velma herself never was. The telecast, scheduled to air Wednesday, Dec. 7, also stars Harvey Fierstein, Jennifer Hudson, Martin Short, Derek Hough and newcomer Maddie Baillio.
