Logo sets ‘Fire Island’ reality series focusing on young professionals escaping City life

Fire Island will once again be the locale of a reality series.

The gay-oriented cable channel Logo said Wednesday that “Fire Island,” focusing on a group of young New York City professionals who unwind in the community of Fire Island Pines, would premiere in 2017. The reality show, from Kelly Ripa and her husband Mark Consuelos’ Milojo Productions, is expected to begin shooting soon and continue through Labor Day. Also producing are Albert Bianchini (the 2014 Logo series “Secret Guide to Fabulous”) and Lenid Rolov, whose many reality shows include Bravo’s “Princesses: Long Island.”

Along with Cherry Grove, the hamlet of Fire Island Pines, part of the Town of Brookhaven, is one of the 32-mile barrier island’s two locales that for decades have traditionally been associated with gay culture.

In 2006, ABC ran the short-lived reality show “One Ocean View,” set in the Fire Island village of Ocean Beach, about four men and seven women in their 20s spending weekends there and seeking romance. Produced by the major reality-TV company Bunim/Murray Productions (“Real World,” “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”), it was savaged by critics and did poorly in the ratings.

Meanwhile, Bravo has been shooting the tentatively titled reality series “Summer House” in Montauk despite opposition from local residents. While town officials did not approve production company True Entertainment’s application for a filming permit, the show has been shooting on private property while the municipality regulates only filming on public property.
