The 1979 original “Mad Max,” which was actually released in the U.S. a year later with an American dub, is far from a perfect film: it’s a bit ponderous and thinly plotted, but it also changed the game with its punk-influenced dystopian vision.
‘Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior’
The beloved first sequel flat out rocks: it represents the apex of Miller’s keen action sensibilities, at least until “Fury Road,” and it features a perfect blend of Australian quirk and hard-nosed energy.
‘Max Max Beyond Thunderdome’
This fun sequel has Max off to fight for his life in a desert village run by an Aunty (Tina Turner). There Max has to battle in the Thunderdome against the behemoth Blaster. Watch it and you’ll forever be chanting “Two men enter, one man leaves.”
