Mariah Carey in NYC hospital with severe flu, report says

Pop star Mariah Carey reportedly was hospitalized Wednesday after contracting a severe flu.

GossipCop.com said the singer, 46, was admitted to a New York City hospital and given intravenous fluids and vitamins in order to help alleviate symptoms. She was expected to be released later the same day.

Carey began feeling ill Tuesday evening after a promotional appearance at a Pier 1 Imports holiday pop-up store in SoHo, according to TMZ.com, which first reported the hospitalization. The site said there was particular concern over her health since she is scheduled to perform Saturday night at the WQHT/Hot 97 “Busta Rhymes & Friends: Hot for the Holidays” concert at the Prudential Center in Newark. Next week she is scheduled to begin several nights of holiday concerts at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre.

Carey’s representative did not immediately respond to a Newsday request for comment.

Carey was forced to cancel the May 13 show of her “#1 To Infinity” residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, explaining to fans on social media, “I’ve been fighting bronchitis for the past few days. almost better but on mandatory vocal rest per doctor’s orders. I’m so sorry to cancel tonight’s show but I promise to make it up to you!”
