Miley Cyrus is using her fame and social influence for a new project: The Happy Hippie Foundation.
Cyrus announced on Tuesday that her new nonprofit aims to “rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations.”
The singer celebrated the launch of the foundation with a “Happy Hippie Sessions” video performance with Joan Jett, singing a duet of ‘Different’.
Cyrus, who has an equal sign tattoo in support of gay marriage, brought a homeless teen to the VMA’s in 2014 and has recently been an outspoken opponent of Indiana’s ‘Religious Freedom Restoration Act’ has an established record of using her celebrity to encourage awareness of social causes.
While it’s unclear exactly how the donations to the foundation will be allocated, the website states that the money will fund programs that support homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations.
Cyrus will be holding a live Facebook Q&A on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
