Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) is hosting a ten-series film series, See It Big: Sondheim, to commemorate the work of Stephen Sondheim, starting April 1 through May 1.

This film is devoted to the American composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, who passed away on Nov. 26, 2021. He not only will be remembered for revolutionizing musical theater, but his mark on the moving image will be unforgettable.

In collaboration with Reverse Shot, MoMI will offer visitors to enjoy a selection of films that interpret Sondheims stage work in MoMI’s grand Redstone Theater. The exhibit will feature scores and screenplays he contributed to dramas, including the documentary Original Cast Album: Company, allowing one to see his creative process.

Starting the series with Steven Spielberg’s classic, West Side Story, followed by the original West Side Story (1961). Other films during the series include Gypsy (1962), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966), Original Cast Album: Company (1970), Stavisky (1974), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), Into the Woods (2014), The Last of Sheila (1973) and Dick Tracy (1990).
