Nearly one year after his death, Margaritaville Times Square continues to keep Jimmy Buffett’s mission alive.
The resort first opened its doors in 2021, bringing a little bit of paradise to a bustling part of Midtown. The hotel has been a popular option for those coming in from out of town, but also for those who are looking for a staycation in the Big Apple, with wasting away being completely optional.
“Margaritaville brings a slice of paradise to the bustling city of New York. What sets us apart is our ability to transport guests to a tropical oasis, offering an escape from the urban hustle. Our inspired decor, complete with palm trees and beach vibes, creates a relaxing environment that is unmatched in the city,” said Jack Runkle, General Manager of Margaritaville Resort Times Square.
All 234 hotel rooms aim to give guests a tranquil yet casual island-style atmosphere, allowing guests to truly unwind during their stay. Margaritaville Times Square has some traditional hotel amenities, such as a fitness center, business center, room service, and an outdoor pool, plus VIP turn-down service, laundry and valet services, and an on-site souvenir shop.
The hotel prides itself on its stellar customer service, aiming to make everyone’s stay, regardless of whether they are the son of a son of a sailor, relaxing and comfortable.
“Our primary goal at Margaritaville Resort Times Square is to ensure that every guest experiences a moment of relaxation and joy, reminiscent of a carefree island getaway,” said Runkle.
One thing that makes Margaritaville Times Square unique to its New York City hotel counterparts is the variety of themed restaurants on-site, such as the aptly-named Margaritaville Restaurant (where you can find their own Lady Liberty inside), the Landshark Bar & Grill, the License to Chill Bar and the 5 o’Clock Somewhere Rooftop Bar. Each one brings their own spin to the island theme (you can even get your own Cheeseburger in Paradise), with no shortage of Buffett-themed drinks and, of course, margaritas.
“Our live entertainment, 5 o’Clock Somewhere Rooftop Bar with stunning views, and a diverse menu that captures the essence of island living make us a standout destination,” said Runkle. “We strive to provide exceptional service, delicious cuisine at our restaurants including Margaritaville and Landshark Bar & Grill, and a fun, welcoming atmosphere where guests can unwind and make lasting memories. We aim to exceed expectations by offering unique dining experiences and top-notch hospitality that reflects the laid-back, friendly spirit of Margaritaville.”
On Labor Day weekend in 2023, Jimmy Buffett passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. Though he has passed on, Margaritaville Times Square is continuing to work to keep his legacy going by embodying the lifestyle and values he held near and dear to his heart.
“Our decor and overall ambiance remain true to the island spirit. We also engage with the community through various initiatives, including an upcoming Day of Service, that reflect his love for music, the ocean, and giving back,” said Runkle.
Runkle also says that the hotel has been continuing to work to foster a sense of community within hotel guests by creating interactive activities, such as the Margaritaville bar crawl that the staff prepared in honor of National Tequila Day.
That said, and maybe it’s his music playing everywhere from the restaurants to the elevators, it’s hard not to go anywhere within the hotel property without feeling a little bit of Buffett’s spirit lingering, ready to make margaritas out of limes.
“Our goal is to keep his spirit alive by ensuring that every visitor feels the warmth, fun, and relaxation that he so passionately shared with the world,” said Runkle.
