‘Pixels,’ ‘Jupiter Ascending’ tie for most Razzie nods

These movies are a dishonor to cinema.

The Golden Raspberry Awards LLC has released its nominations for the 36th Annual Razzie Awards, dishonoring the worst in the past year’s cinema.

The organization announced Wednesday that its nominees for Worst Picture of 2015 were the science-fiction epic “Jupiter Ascending,” the superhero misfire “Fantastic Four,” the tepid erotica of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” Kevin James’ comedy sequel “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” and Adam Sandler’s videogames-come-to-life adventure, “Pixels.”

“Pixels,” “Jupiter Ascending,” “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” and “Fifty Shades of Grey” tied for the most nominations, with six each. Aside from the Picture category, “Pixels” receiving nods for Worst Actor (Sandler, for it and “The Cobbler” combined), Worst Supporting Actor (Josh Gad, for it and “The Wedding Ringer” combined, and Kevin James), Worst Supporting Actress (Michelle Monaghan) and Worst Screenplay.

The nominations for “Jupiter Ascending” included Worst Actor (Channing Tatum), Worst Actress (Mila Kunis), Worst Supporting Actor (Eddie Redmayne) and both Worst Director and Worst Screenplay for the team of Andy & Lana Wachowski. And “Fifty Shades” earned nominations for worst Actor (Jamie Dornan), Actress (Dakota Johnson), Director (Sam Taylor-Johnson), Screenplay and Combo (Dornan & Johnson).

A handful of normally acclaimed actors besides “The Theory of Everything” Oscar-winner Redmayne took lumps as well. Fellow Academy Award-winner Gwyneth Paltrow and three-time Oscar-nominee Johnny Depp were nominated for Worst Actress and Worst Actor, respectively, for “Mortdecai”; and Oscar-winner Julianne Moore for Worst Supporting Actress (“Seventh Son”).

On a positive note, the organization bestows a Razzie Redeemer Award to past winners who have gone on to better work. This year’s nominees are Elizabeth Banks, M. Night Shyamalan, Will Smith and Sylvester Stallone.

Winners will be announced at 11 p.m. Eastern time on February 27, the night before the Academy Awards.
