Surprisingly, it’s not Meryl Streep. She’s become almost synonymous for Oscar nods, with 19 in all, which makes her the most-nominated actor of any gender. “When they called my name I had this feeling I could hear half of America going, ‘Oh no... Her? Again?” Streep said when she won for 2011’s “The Iron Lady.” She added: “But, whatever!” Still, Streep’s record pales next to that of a certain well-known film composer: John Williams. Since beginning his career in the late 1950s, Williams has earned Oscar nods for movies you surely know (“Superman”), movies you’ve probably never seen (Robert Altman’s “Images”) and movies that might surprise you (1990’s “Home Alone”). He holds five Oscars so far, including for “Jaws,” “Schindler’s List” and, of course, “Star Wars.” Speaking of which, Williams is in this year’s Oscar race for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” That brings his total number of nominations to 50 -- more than anyone alive. As for the person with the most Oscar nods in history, that’s the late Walt Disney, with 59.
