If you want to visit the Hamptons but don’t have a summer share (or a friend with a sprawling beachfront home), here’s a new option: Gurney’s Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa.
Well, new isn’t quite right. The legendary hotel has been a Montauk staple for more than 85 years, but it was starting to look a little tired. Last year, property developers George Filopoulos and Lloyd Goldman purchased the resort for $25 million and immediately started to overhaul it, adding 38 new guest rooms, refreshing 71 existing bedrooms and unveiling newly designed restaurants with updated menus to appeal to a hipper crowd (hello, kale salad).
Only the first phase of the renovations is done, but already the hotel now looks, well, fit for the Hamptons.
Rates start at $360 per night; 290 Old Montauk Hwy., 631-668-2345, gurneysinn.com
