The American Kennel Club held a news conference on Feb. 22, 2016, at its headquarters on Madison Avenue to reveal the nation's top dogs, according to registration records. The lab is the No. 1 most popular dog in America for the 25th year in a row. These dogs come in three colors: yellow, black and chocolate. They are wonderful workout companions and family dogs. Labrador retrievers were the third most popular dog in New York City in 2015, according to the American Kennel Club. 2. German Shepherd Photo Credit: Diana Colapietro German shepherds are one of the most versatile dog breeds as they are protective, easily trained and intelligent. These dogs often accompany police officers because they're working dogs. They were the second most popular dog in the United States in 2015, and the sixth most popular in New York City, according to the American Kennel Club. 3. Contrary to the bulldog, golden retrievers are extremely athletic. These dogs were the third most popular in the United States in 2015, and the fourth most popular dog in New York City, according to the American Kennel Club. 4. They do not require that much exercise, making them a great companion for someone living in the city. Bulldogs were the fourth most popular breed in the United States in 2015, and the second most popular in New York City, according to the American Kennel Club. 5. Known to bark quite a bit and be rather independent, these dogs get along well with kids and other dogs.
