Shelly Ann Cawley reportedly awoke from a coma to the sound of her daughter crying, just before doctors were ready to give up hope. In September 2014, Cawley, who is in her twenties, slipped into a coma after suffering from a complication during an emergency C-section, Fox 46 reports. Thankfully, her daughter Rylan arrived into the world safely. Reaching Rylan's first birthday, the couple recalled the miracle that now strongly bonds Cawley to her daughter by sharing their story on social media. Cawley's husband Jeremy tells BuzzFeed News that after a week in a coma, doctors told him they "didn't think they'd be able to keep [his wife] alive until the morning." That's when the nurses suggested trying skin-to-skin contact and noise stimulation. So, he placed his daughter on her mother's belly, trying his hardest to get Rylan to cry. And when she did, her mother began to stir. "They saw a spike in my vitals," Shelly Cawley told Fox 46. "They think that me hearing her subconsciously gave my body and my subconscious a reason to fight. That I still needed to be there for my baby." Cawley fully came out of a coma a week later, Fox 46 reported. A year later, a video she shared documenting her first moments with her daughter has been watched over 700,000 times on YouTube. Her story has since been picked up by major news organizations across the world. "Our story is even being shared in Rome!" She wrote on her Facebook page on Friday. "In awe and so humbled with how God is using us to make his name great around the world!"
