Mattel set to release Karl Lagerfeld-inspired Barbie

What happens when two fashion icons team up?  In this instance, you end up with “Barbie Lagerfeld,” a limited edition new Barbie doll, dressed in the likeness of one of the world’s most famous designers, Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld.

This swanky Barbie, who, for the record is 55 years old, dons a tailored black jacket, white high-collared men’s shirt with French cuffs, and a black satin tie along with fitted black jeans. Accessories include black fingerless gloves, black ankle boots and a black silver purse with metallic accents. Even Barbie’s ‘do is Lagerfeld-like.  She’s wearing a ponytail.

“Working with Karl Lagerfeld for this unique creative collaboration has been an incredible honor,” said Kim Culmone, vice president Global Barbie Product Design. “It’s not every day that Barbie dresses like the world’s most famous fashion designer.”

And apparently, Lagerfeld enjoyed the wardrobing process too. “It has been great fun for Karl and the team to dress Barbie in this iconic style” says Pier Paolo Righi CEO and president of Karl Lagerfeld.

The “Barbie Lagerfeld” doll will be released under the Barbie Collection label this fall, when additional doll and retail information will be available.
