LifestyleStyle New scents for spring 2014 By SHEILA ANNE FEENEY March 10, 2014 11:55 AM Print Share fbShare Tweet Email Sandalwood dominated winter's women's scent collections, but perfumers have lightened up for spring, injecting a shot of balsamy green vetiver into many of their new floral fragrances. It's a good trend. The earthy and aromatic injection of vetiver (think lemongrass) lightens up and modernizes what might have been overly floral 'fumes. Nirvana White Eau de Parfum by Elizabeth and James Elizabeth and James, one arm of the Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen fashion empire, has come up with a saucy, modern floral musk in Nirvana White. This is a statement perfume for the audacious, selfie-obsessed girl who likes the smell of peonies, musk and muguet coming from a bottle shaped uncannily like a mobile phone. $22 (rollerball), $55 (30 ml), $75 (50 ml); at Sephora Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her Eau de Parfum The vetiver and English lavender in this fresh, light EDT has a powdery peppermint undertone. A gin-like infusion of resiny, balsamy wood notes elevates this already subtle and complex floral bouquet into an ultra-mod concoction of wifty mystery. $90 (90 ml); at Burberry, 9 E. 57th St., 212-407-7100 Femme Parfum by Vince Camuto This potent, jaunty and girly lemony lime citrus swirl is also laced with vetiver. It opens evoking the aroma of the classic, squeaky-clean unisex toilette water 4711 but transmogrifies for a peppery, spicy dry down with surprising notes of vanilla and patchouli. Femme, yes — but not overly florid. $45 (1 oz.), $60 (1.7 oz.), $78 (3.4 oz.); at Macy’s, 151 W. 34th St., 212-695-4400 Rain & Angelica Cologne by Jo Malone This delicate, dreamy herbaceous creation tucked into Jo Malone’s new London Rain collection is a blend of aquatic notes and oceany freshness. Inspired by the notion of petrichor — the smell of nature after a long-awaited rainfall — Rain & Angelica is rooted in a “rain accord,” with angelica at its heart, vetiver at its base and a splash of bracing lime. Other colognes in the collection include Black Cedarwood & Juniper, Wisteria and Violet and the more familiar White Jasmine & Mint. $120 (100 ml); at Jo Malone, 330 Bleecker St., 212-242-1454 By SHEILA ANNE FEENEY Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Comments We're revamping our Comments section.
