LifestyleStyle Spring fashion: Hairstyles for the new season By KRISTYNA KANE/Special to amNewYork April 28, 2014 7:04 PM Print Share fbShare Tweet Email Out with the old and in with the new! This season, it's time to experiment with color, a fresh cut or a chic style when it comes to hair. The trend: Pops of color Photo Credit: L'Oreal Be daring and apply pops of vibrant color — such as pink or purple — on locks. Hair chalk is a simple way to try the trend without a full commitment, since it washes out in roughly 10 shampoos or less. Use chalk sparingly on small sections of clean, dry hair, says L’Oreal Professionnel Artist Jennifer MacDougall. Or try a color shampoo: A red one will create a killer hot-pink shade on blondes.Pictured: Poppy DelevingneThe Body Shop Hair Chalk in Tickle Me Pink, $12; at The Body Shop, 747Broadway, 212-979-2944; L'Oreal Professionnel Hair Chalk in First Date Violet, $15-$30 (in-salon service) or $24 (at-home kit); at Ted Gibson Salon, 184 Fifth Ave., 212-633-6333; Davines Alchemic Red Shampoo, $24.50; at us.davines.com The trend: Long bob Photo Credit: Jason Merritt A long bob is a huge trend this year. At the salon, ask for soft layers, says Oscar Blandi, owner of Oscar Blandi Salon. “Since it’s hard to keep hair straight in warm and humid weather, [layers] make it easier to have wave and body with a shorter style,” he says. A dry shampoo spray will keep hair voluminous and piecey, plus fight frizz. Pictured: Jessica AlbaR+Co Continental Glossing Wax, $27; at C.O. Brown This update to the average braid creates an “effortlessly cool look,” says Sally Hershberger, owner of Sally Hershberger Salon. “It’s also great for second-day hair and busy girls on the go,” she adds. Spray and scrunch hair with a texture spray, braid hair (securing it with a clear elastic), then tug on the braid and loosen pieces all over. Finish the look with a volumizing spray. Go with the hue all over, or, if that’s too extreme, add bright highlights or thick platinum chunks around the frame of the face.Pictured: Elle FanningRita Hazan Ultimate Shine Blonde Gloss, $26; at Rita Hazan Salon, 720 Fifth Ave., 212-586-4343; OGX Lemon Highlights Highlight-Activating Citrus Oil Mist, $7.99; at Walgreens stores; O&M Conquer Blonde Silver Shampoo, $34.95; at O&M, 55 Little W. 12th St., 212-255-2445 By KRISTYNA KANE/Special to amNewYork Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Comments We're revamping our Comments section.
