Update: Father arrested in death of a Bronx infant found in his apartment

Police arrested a Bronx father in the death of his baby boy, Kasheem Watkins who was found unconscious in his Bronx home on Wednesday morning.

The NYPD charged 27-year old Teshawn Watkins and charged the father with: murder 2, manslaughter, reckless endangerment 1, and for acting in a manner injurous to a child, according to police sources.

Watkins was a father of two, and ACS had taken both of his children into custody previously, the NYPD reported.

While a motive and details remain unclear at this time, authorities say that at 6:17 a.m. on Jan. 29, police responded to a 911 call regarding an aided infant inside an apartment at 3642 Holland Ave. Upon their arrival, officers found 1-month-old  Watkins in the apartment, unconscious and unresponsive, with no obvious signs of trauma.

Watkins was rushed to Montefiore North Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation is ongoing and police have determined the infant’s death to be a homicide.
