Severely burned man dead after apartment fire in Manhattan high-rise

A 76-year-old man was fatally burned in his bedroom after a blaze broke out in his apartment at a Manhattan high-rise on Friday night, police reported.

FDNY and police responded to a 911 call about the fire at 9:05 p.m. on Feb. 14 on the 25th floor of the Adams Tower, located at 351 East 84th St. in Yorkville.

About 80 firefighters were able to extinguish the one-alarm blaze in about an hour, according to published reports. But during the response, firefighters found the 76-year-old man in the bedroom of an apartment, with severe burns about his body.

Paramedics at the scene pronounced the victim dead. Police have withheld his identity, pending family notification.

Two others inside the burning apartment were hospitalized with injuries, published reports indicated.

Fire marshals are now investigating what caused the deadly blaze, police said.
