They say patience is a virtue. Rob Diaz arrived at Pier 2 in Battery Park at roughly 11:00 p.m. Monday night. Nine hours later, he reeled in a 24-pound striped bass.
“This is the peak time,” said Diaz. “They’re swimming back down the east coast. This is the height, from now until December.”
Amateur anglers however should not get excited. Jay Sepulveda has been fishing late at night at Pier 2 for years and he said it’s quite crowded in the wee hours.
“It’s packed to the gills down here at night,” he said. “But we don’t like the rookies. They’re always crossing lines.”
