Sara D. Roosevelt Park hosted two celebrations Sunday – a traditional Burmese Water Festival and a block party organized by the New Museum on the Bowery. The water festival marks the beginning of the Burmese New Year and is usually filled with spirited festive activities. About 1,500 people attended the block party. The museum, opened its new distinctive new building almost two years ago and wanted to organize an event for the Downtown community. The event’s sponsors included Green Depot, Whole Foods and Community Media L.L.C., publisher of Downtown Express.
