Traffic change on Chambers

One block of Chambers St. will soon become a one-way westbound street for about six weeks, the state Department of Transportation announced last week

The change between North End Ave. and West St. was scheduled to take effect on Sat., July 25, but delays have postponed the switch. Vivian Wu, spokesperson for the D.O.T., said that the changes should take effect by this weekend, and early next week at the latest.

The change is needed to do crosswalk reconstruction on West St. as part of the Route 9A Promenade project.

Though the change has not yet taken effect, the M20 and M22 bus stop has already been relocated to Warren St. at West St. The D.O.T. encourages drivers to use Warren, Murray, or Vesey Sts. during the construction period to access West St, and detour signs will be posted when the changes have been made. The Downtown Alliance’s “Downtown Connection” bus service will not be affected.
