Matthew Francis, 21, of Staten Island was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court Monday on charges of attempted robbery, robbery, assault as a hate crime and criminal possession. Francis and another man are accused of attacking a Stonewall Inn patron early Sunday morning. As for the defendant’s bizarre expression, at left, photographer Jefferson Siegel, who is an experienced court lensman, said: “At arraignments, when the district attorney starts enumerating the charges, and repeats damning statements that the accused allegedly said to the police, the accused always gives a look of incredulity. In the photo, the D.A. was describing what Francis did to the patron in the Stonewall bathroom and Francis screwed up his face like, ‘What? That’s not what I did.’ ”
