Autopsy of woman who apparently jumped from luxury tower expected today

An autopsy is expected to be performed today on a 25-year-old Asian woman who died after apparently jumping out of a 23rd floor window of the luxurious One Columbus Place tower Sunday morning.

The woman landed on a fifth floor landing of the Manhattan apartment building, where rents range from $2,500 for a studio to $7,700 for a two-bedroom, said police, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It appears she jumped,” said an NYPD spokeswoman.

Zuzanna (cq) Pankowski, 79, a speech therapist from Poland who lives in the building, said she saw a body covered with black plastic being loaded into an ambulance yesterday afternoon. “It’s sad,” said Pankowski. “It’s a very nice building, but it’s very difficult to make friends because there are so many languages and cultures.”

The woman’s identity is being withheld until her family can be notified, said a spokeswoman for the Medical Examiner.
