Politicians on Syrian refugees: Ben Carson’s ‘rabid dog’ comment, Donald Trump’s ISIS tweet and more

Politicians are divided on the Obama administration’s plan to admit Syrian refugees.

Thursday, the House approved a bill to pause a plan to allow 10,000 refugees into the United States over the next year. More than half of governors in the U.S. say they would oppose allowing refugees into their states.

Ben Carson made an odd comparison between screening refugees and calling the humane society on rabid dogs. And Donald Trump suggested in a tweet that Syrian refugees who tried to cross the southern border were members of ISIS.

But some Democrats have struck a more compassionate tone. Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Bill de Blasio are among the politicians who support Obama’s plan to allow refugees into the United States.

“We cannot allow terrorists to intimidate us into abandoning our values and our humanitarian obligations,” Clinton said.
