A man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly driving drunk and fatally striking a woman with his car in Brooklyn, police say.

Authorities say that at 7:47 p.m. on Nov. 22, the NYPD responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle collision in front of 487 Atlantic Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers found 62-year-old Alina Morales, of Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, at the scene in cardiac arrest. She sustained multiple injuries to her body.

A prelminary investigation revealed that Morales was trying to cross Atlantic Avenue mid-block when she was hit by a red 2015 Hyundai Sonata, operated by 49-year-old Jasen Nhambiu (of Union Street in Brooklyn), that was traveling westbound on Atlantic Avenue. Nhambiu remained at the scene following the crash.

EMS rushed Morales to Brooklyn Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead.

At 9:53 p.m. that same evening, Nhambiu was taken into custody by the 84th Precinct. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to take a breath test, aggravated unlicensed operator under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license.
