After the previous week’s rain delay, and the day after the winter’s first big snowfall, The Carolers of Olde from Theater for the New City performed last Sunday in Tompkins Square Park at the 18th annual holiday tree lighting ceremony. Music was provided by the Mandel & Lydon Trio. The event was hosted by The Tompkins Square Park Neighborhood Coalition, East Village Parks Conservancy and Third Street Music School Settlement. Refreshments were provided by Veselka restaurant and Life Cafe. Also contributing to the event were East Village Books & Records, East Village Parks Conservancy, Odessa restaurant, Vazac’s bar, Sustainable NYC, Giano restaurant and wine bar, Saifee Hardware and Third Street Music School Settlement. The spruce evergreen was donated to the park in 1992 in remembrance of Glenn Barnett — an advocate for the park’s restoration — and in recognition of the continuing efforts of neighbors to maintain and improve the park.
