Chinatown field day

Kicking off the first weekend of summer, the Asian American Youth Center is hosting its Eighth Annual Summer Field Day in Columbus Park Saturday June 24.

The field day will begin at 10.a.m., and children can enjoy competitive races as well as carnival games until 4 p.m. The registration fee is $5 per child, and the forms can be picked up at Good Day Travel at 11 East Broadway, Suite 8A. Forms are also available at www.aaycny.org. Parents can bring the form and fee to the event, but if they bring the form to Good Day Travel before Saturday, they are more likely to receive a free field day tee-shirt. Admission is free for adults.

“Basically, it’s a day for the kids to come out and have a good time,” said Tom Law, co-founder of A.A.Y.C.

“The goal is to make sure that parents spend a good day with their children…for the parents and the children to interact,” Law said. Law has two children, who will play in the basketball tournament Saturday.

The A.A.Y.C. holds activity events twice a year – one in the winter and other in the summer. The organization’s mission is to build a recreation center in Chinatown.
