Downtown Hospital treats children

An article in the April 9 Downtown Express, “With St. Vincent’s closing, Downtown Hospital prepared to help,” stated that New York Downtown Hospital does not have a pediatric emergency room, based on a hospital spokesperson’s statement. However, another hospital spokesperson subsequently clarified that Downtown Hospital has a pediatrician in the hospital at all times, and a pediatrician evaluates all emergency cases involving children. Downtown Hospital does not admit children from the emergency room into the hospital, but sends them instead to Weill Cornell Medical Center on E. 68th St., the spokesperson said. Downtown Hospital’s emergency room sees about 4,000 pediatric cases annually, the spokesperson said.
