Elaine Cannel, 69, expert on art, antiques, furnishings

Elaine Cannel, a syndicated columnist and a resident for 35 years of Gramercy Park, died at home of cancer on June 2 at the age of 69.

She was active in the Gramercy Neighborhood Association and toured the U.S. speaking to women’s groups on investing in art and antiques.

Born in Pittsburgh, she was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and worked as a researcher at NBC-TV first with Dave Garroway on the “Today Show” and then with Steve Allen on the “Tonight Show.” Gannett newspapers syndicated her home-furnishings column, “The Good Life.” In recent years she ran a publishing business, Crown & Bridge, with her husband, Edward Cannel, who survives.
