RED SHOES: STILL LIFE CONSTRUCTIONS An exhibit of digital photography by Carolyn Conrad featuring multiple sets of ‘50s inspired women’s high-heeled dress shoes that the artist molded out of clay and painted red, along with a series of simple, child-like white straight chairs. photo exhibit by GRACE GRAUPE-PILLARD “Interventions” depicts images of war, including soldiers, car-bombings, ruins, explosions and refugees in far-off places, that are digitally embedded into photos of familiar streets and parks in New York City, Baltimore and New Jersey. ACROSS + DOWN The debut solo exhibition by Edwina White will feature drawing, text, found objects, sound and animation in a process reminiscent of early collage artists. ANOTHER IRAQ A month before the US invasion of Iraq, journalist/photographer Terry J. Allen captured compelling and unpredictable images of a people and a nation on the edge of cataclysmic change. MISS LIBERTY: A MONUMENTAL MOSAIC View a four-ton monumental mosaic floor made in Israel by 120 Jewish and Arab youth using thousands of small hand-cut pieces of stone. Led by Israeli artist, David Wakstein. The mosaic is based on a 1940 British cartoon, the year before the US entered World War II. Thru May 28, Tues. – Sat. from 11am – 6pm. FLOATING OVER THE F TRAIN: VISIONS OF HOME A selection of “allegorical landscapes” by Brooklyn-based artist Tina Gauthier will be on view synthesizing “the dreams and memories of Gauthier’s native landscapes of Watertown, Connecticut with the images of the Lower East Side and Brooklyn.” Thru June 5. THE GESTURE OF NATURE A solo exhibition by New York artist Phyllis Rosser featuring “a fantasy garden of bare branches” as well as “large wall-mounted constructions of wood stripped of its bark and woven into densely-layered forms.” Pictured above is “Pufferfish.” April 26 – May 21.
