A fire inside a Long Island City dry cleaner Sunday spread to a furniture store next door, as firefighters fought to get control over the five-alarm blaze, authorities said.
The fire broke out at 3:42 p.m. at the 13th Street business, near 40th Avenue, an FDNY spokesman said. But the flames quickly fanned and hours later it was brought up to a fifth alarm.
More than 200 firefighters from about 50 units were fighting the blaze on Sunday evening. The fire was brought under control around 8:30 p.m.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, an FDNY spokesman said.
It was not immediately clear where inside the building the fire started, or what sparked it.
