A huge, raging fire in Midtown on Wednesday night engulfed several vehicles on the block, it was reported.
According to FDNY sources, a trash fire outside of a luxury apartment building quickly spread to nearby vehicles at 685 1st Ave.. Gigantic flames licked at the night sky as a van and car became completely engulfed, causing plumes of smoke to fill the entire Midtown block.
Onlookers watched in disbelief as firefighters became shrouded in smoke while they hosed the fire and even smashed the vehicles’ windows.
Spraying both the cars and the trash, it took responding firefighters about an hour to quell the blaze.
FDNY reported no injuries. The cause is under investigation.
